Berber villages treks: A superb trek through the valleys, passes and villages of Morocco’s Atlas mountains. The route takes off the main tourist trails and we stay in the heart of each village community in a locally owned guesthouse.
The Imlil Valley is a popular launching point for those wishing to trek through the High Atlas Mountains, specifically Jbel Toubkal. From just about any point in the valley, Imlil valley is the paradise of the hikers in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco.
TOUBKAL NATIONAL PARK
The highest point in North Africa with its 4,167 meters of altitude, Jbel Toubkal gave its name, in 1942, to the first national park of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Extending over nearly 39,000 ha, the Toubkal National Park is located 70 km south of Marrakech, in the portion that corresponds to the Adrar n’Dern (mountain of mountains).
With an exceptional biodiversity, this park welcomes many visitors, who can discover plateaus and cliffs that alternate with gorges, where rivers with crystal clear waters flow, ensuring irrigation in the valleys and plains of the foothills. .

Azzaden Valley Overnight Trek
Discover traditional Berber villages and see Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. Visit the waterfalls of Imlil. Have lunch in an authentic Berber home and see how the Berbers live.
Itinerary Day per Day:
Marrakech – Imlil/ High Atlas Mountains (1740m)– Tizi Mzik (2684m)-Tamsoulte waterfalls (2300m) Tizi Oussem village (1850m).
After breakfast in Marrakech, pick up & drive towards the high Atlas Mountains via Tahnnaout, Oued Ghighaya & Asni, enjoy the stunning view of the villages along the valet. Arrival to Imlil (65km from Marrakech), meet the guide & multeer andthen start the trek & climb Tizi Mzik pass (2684m), spectacular view over Imlil valley & Toubkal Summit, continue to Tamsoulte to visit the highest waterfalls in the Atlas Mountains (100m of hight), down the Azzaden valley through juniper forest to get to Tizi Oussem village. Overnight at the Guest house in the village. 6hrs walking.
Tizi Oussem (1850m) – Id Issa village (1800m) – Tizi Oudid (2000m) – Mattat – Agersioual – Marrakech
After breakfast, enjoy the sunshine on this colorful valley & its marvelous typical Berber villages, leave Tizi Oussem & continue down to Id Issa village, before heading up to Tizi Oudid mountain pass (2000m), cross matat village after a wild thurifer juniper forest, get lunch under walnut groves and relax near the river. On the afternoon transfer back to Marrakech ( arrive approx 17h) 5hrs

Azzaden valley trek in 3 days

Itinerary Day per Day:
Marrakech − Asni − Imi N’oughlad − Tacht pass − Tahliouine
Departure from Marrakech around 9:00 am. We take a less maintained road to the village of Imi N'Oughlad where we will meet our team of muleteers. Preparation for the stage, loading the mules and filling the water bottles. Start of the hike, we cross the village to cross the Col de Tacht 1900m. lunch in the middle of nature. After the descent to the village Tahliouine, where we will be welcomed by a Berber family., The night with the locals – 1h30 drive – 4h walk.
Tahliouine − Matate pass − Aguerssioulal pass − Aguersioual pass − Imnane valley
We climb to the Col de Matate (2100m) through the juniper forest. the panoramic views of the multi-colored valley of Azzden and the surrounding mountains, a high place of ancestral transhumance. The descent of the Matate valley with its beautiful villages before going up again to the Aguersioual pass. Arrival at our cottage in the village Tinaghrine in the heart of the Imnane valley. 6h30 walk. 800m climb. 700m descent
Tinghrine − Col de Tamaterte (2200m) − Imlil
We leave this beautiful valley of Imnane through the beautiful Berber villages. We continue our stage by following a fairly long path, with a panoramic view of the Imnane valley that we crossed in the morning. We then cross the Tamatert pass at 2200m, with the very beautiful landscapes of the Ait Misane valley, then the descent to the village of Imlil at 1750m. lunch then transfer to Marrakech. 5 hour walk. 1h30 drive.

Trek from Imlil valley to Ourika Valley in 3 days
A fantastic 3-day hiking between two Berber valleys of the High Atlas, A superb three-day hike between the two Berber valleys of the High Atlas from Imlil to Setti Fadma via the Tizi N’Tacheddirt pass (3172m) and the Ourika valley. The altitude allows us to enjoy panoramic views of the Toubkal National Park. During our hike from Imlil to Ourika, we cross Berber villages and terraced fields with vegetables, walnuts and apple trees belonging to each village.
Itinerary Day per Day:
Marrakech – Imlil (1740 m) – The Tizi N’Tamatert pass (2279 m) – Tacheddirt (2400 m) – Night in a Gite
Transfer of 1H30 from Marrakech to the Imlil valley; the meeting place with our muleteers and their mules. Start of our hike heading east towards the Tizi n’Tamaterte pass (2279 m) through barley fields and cherry, walnut and apple orchards in Tamaterte village. At the pass, we will stop for lunch and enjoy the beautiful view of Imlil and Imnane. After two hours of walking we will arrive at our cottage in the village of Tacheddirt. 5 hour walk.
Tacheddirt (2400 m) – Tizi n'Iabbassen (3172 m) – Timichi (2000 m)
Departure around 8 a.m. destination the Tizi N’Iabbassen pass (3172 m). from the pass, we enjoy amazing panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. such as, summit of Bouignoouane (3882m) and Jbel Aksoual (3842m). then the descent through a rocky passage in the direction of Iaabbassen village (2030m), the Timichi valley, an old multi-colored village surrounded by old nut trees. Night at the lodge in a traditional Berber family house. 6 hour walk.
Timichi (2000 m) – Setti Fadma – Ourika Valley (1600 m) – Marrakech
A downhill hike to the Ourika Valley (four to five hours walk) through corn and nut fields, crossing villages Tiourdou, Anfli, Tadrart, Chiker. Arrival at Ourika. Lunch by the river near Setti Fadma village. End of our Imlil Setti Fatma Ourika Hike. 1h30 transfer to Marrakech.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
- Portage: For walkers a small backpack for the day’s belongings. Mules are available for carrying luggage.
- Supervision: By a French speaking Moroccan mountain guide assisted by a cook and muleteers.
- Accommodation: Riad Atlas Imlil, Bivouac in a 2-person tent with mattresses, lodgings during the hike.
- Meals: typical Moroccan dishes (tagine, couscous, …). Fresh products and complementary preserves, meat bought in the mountains. Picnic or salads at noon, hot and cooked meal in the evening.
- Climate: dry and hot in spring, cold at night in winter. Thunderstorm possible
- Supervision: Berber guide speaking French and English, cook, mule drivers.
List of equipment to bring back: The weight of your luggage must be limited and contain all of your belongings. A flexible travel bag with side openings or a rucksack without frame, do not bring back rigid bags and suitcases.

- To do this trek, you should be in good physical conditions, but efforts will be rewarded.
