Mount Toukal Trek
One of the most beautiful mountains of the High Atlas Mountains chain, which passes in the countries of the Maghreb, as Mount Toubkal or Mount Toubkal is the highest mountain peak in the Atlas Mountains chain, which has a height of 4165 meters and is 60 km south of Marrakesh.

It has two types of slopes, The first is the high slopes to which most people tend to practice climbing, which are covered with snow in the winter season, so people practice skiing, and the second is the low or lower slopes, which individuals go to for recreation and enjoying the scenery, you will need two full days to reach the top of a mountain Toubkal and the landing thereof.

On the first day, you will leave from the village of Imlil in the morning and walk for about five hours to the shelter where you will spend the night. Then on the second day you will go to the summit in a period of four to five hours, then head down to the shelter, then return to Imlil, the best period to climb Mount Toubkal is late April to October and great care must be taken when climbing the mountain.

TOUBKAL NATIONAL PARK


The highest point in North Africa with its 4,167 meters of altitude, Jbel Toubkal gave its name, in 1942, to the first national park of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Extending over nearly 39,000 ha, the Toubkal National Park is located 70 km south of Marrakech, in the portion that corresponds to the Adrar n’Dern (mountain of mountains).

With an exceptional biodiversity, this park welcomes many visitors, who can discover plateaus and cliffs that alternate with gorges, where rivers with crystal clear waters flow, ensuring irrigation in the valleys and plains of the foothills. .

Itinerary Day per Day:

Day 1: Marrakech- Imlil 1700m- Tizi Mzik 2684m – Refuge Azib Tamsoult 2250m

After breakfast at the Hotel in Marrakech, take the direction of the High Atlas Mountains Toubkal via Tahnnaout, Oued Ghighaya and Asni, admire the breathtaking view of the Ghighaya valley. Arrival at the village of Imlil (65 km south of Marrakech), meeting with our teams, then departure for the hike and the ascent of the Tizi Mzik pass (2684 m), spectacular view of the Imlil valley and the summit of Toubkal. Then departure to Azib Tamsoulte, night at Refuge Azib Tamsoult, 5 to 6 hours of walking.

Day 2: Refuge Azib Tamsoult 2250m – Tizi Agelzim 3560m – Toubkal Refuge 3207m

Today involves a fairly stiff climb through Ighouliden waterfalls out of the Azzadene Valley to the Toubkal Refuge over the Aguelzim Mountain pass at 3,560m. Lunch will be taken with spectacular views over the Atlas Mountain Range. Overnight in the Toubkal, 6 hours walk.

Day 3: Toubkal Refuge 3207m – Toubkal Summit 4167m – Toubkal Hut 3207m – Imlil Village 1940m

Up early for the climb up Toubkal (4,167m) from where, clouds allowing, you’ll have wonderful views over the Atlas Range and the Sahara Desert then a long way back down past the refuge and the well-worn path back to around village. Overnight in lodge, this is a fairly long day with 8-9 hours of trekking, involving 900m up then almost 2,500m back down to Imlil village overnight in Lodge. 9 to 10 hours walk.

Day 4: Imlil – Marrakech

After breakfast, transfer back to Marrakech.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • Portage: For walkers a small backpack for the day’s belongings. Mules are available for carrying luggage.
  • Supervision: By a Multilanguages speaking Moroccan mountain guide assisted by a cook and muleteers.
  • Accommodation: Riad Atlas Imlil, Bivouac in a 2-person tent with mattresses, lodgings during the hike, or at the mountain hut in the winters.
  • Meals: typical Moroccan dishes (tagine, couscous, …). Fresh products and complementary preserves, meat bought in the mountains. Picnic or salads at noon, hot and cooked meal in the evening.
  • Climate: dry and hot in spring, cold at night in winter. Thunderstorm possible
  • Supervision: Berber guide speaking French and English, cook, mule drivers.

List of equipment to bring back: The weight of your luggage must be limited and contain all of your belongings. A flexible travel bag with side openings or a rucksack without frame, do not bring back rigid bags and suitcases.
