Wild Chegaga Desert Trek 12 Days

Erg Chegaga
Desert

Camelback hiking is not just an activity for tourists. But is part of the nation’s tradition that nomads have used camels as a form of transportation for centuries. Following in their footsteps is a memorable experience, and visitors will have the choice of several options. The most popular camelback trekking adventure is a trip to the Sahara Desert.
Travel by camel on the ridge of a dune at the end of the afternoon without anything around you but sand. peacefulness and open blue sky, have to be experienced and cannot be explained. Find the perfect campsite for the night. The breathtaking sunset is one of the most scenic experiences that visitors will never forget.

Erg Chigaga is the largest and still untouched of the major ergs in Morocco, the other is Erg Chebbi near Merzouga. This erg made of beautiful dunes is located in the Drâa-Tafilalet area about 45 km west of the small rural oasis town of M’Hamid El Ghizlane, itself located about 98 km south of the town of Zagora.

Wild Chegaga Desert Trek 12 Days

Vast and wild.
The view at the end of the track on the dunes of Ghagaga is just impressive. Like a mirage, they take shape on the horizon, like a painting. It is simply unreal, we have rarely seen something so beautiful.

At the bottom of Lake Iriki, completely dry, Chegaga in front of us, we were in a hurry: to climb one of the largest dunes, to be able, when we reached the top (70 m!), to savor the extended landscape over 40 km at 360°.

To the south of Ouarzazate, begins the immense Drâa hamada. In Antiquity the Drâa was a permanent river crossing the south of Morocco. Today, its waters still feed magnificent palm groves between Agdz, Zagora and M’Hamid, before disappearing into the sands. You will live a unique Saharan experience in the heart of the dunes, which will end at the dry lake of Iriqui.
